PENNIES, NICKELS, DIMES & QUARTERS
FROM HEAVEN
Help Our Kids Help in Haiti
Please join Family-to-Family in raising funds for the many orphanages in Port-au-Prince, Haiti that were destroyed by the powerful earthquake on January 12th.
Pennies From Heaven – a “kids-to-kids” effort – is a tested fundraising program that helped us raise over $5,000 for orphanages throughout Tsunami ravaged Indonesia after the 2004 Tsunami… and we can do it again!
An in-school effort, we are reaching out to parents and school administrators… hoping you will galvanize your children and students and join our effort to help the children of Haiti.
Here’s how it works…
In each classroom, ask kids in your school to fill clean, empty 1-gallon milk containers with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters collected from home (with parental permission).
When the milk containers are filled, the kids can (with adult supervision), sort and count the change, put it in rolls from the bank (great math lesson, too!!), and then . . . do it again. And again!!
(Once sorted and rolled, each full jug of coins should be given to a responsible school administrator for safekeeping.)
When a substantial number of coins have been collected (we're hoping to run this program through the end of the school year, and our goal is for each school to collect $1,000)… we would need an adult representative from the school, or a parent, to be responsible for getting the rolled coins to the bank, getting a bank check issued and sending the funds to one of the following charities already working in the affected area:
Partners In Health
Doctors Without Borders
UNICEF
Download our "how to" kit, which includes 1) a letter to your school principal, and 2) a sample flyer to distribute to all students and their families.
After your school makes its donation, notify us so that we can keep a tally on our web site and your students can check in and see how they’re doing!
We also ask that your Principal or PTA President network this concept to other schools in your area and beyond. We'd like to see a Pennies from Heaven 1-gallon milk container filled with coins in as many classrooms across the nation as possible.
It's a great way for the kids in your community to get involved in helping other kids that desperately need assistance . . . . Kids-to-Kids.
